2003-05-14 : It's a small world after all
I need to write something. I haven’t really written anything non work related since Saturday when I was working on my screenplay. And that is just not acceptable dammit.

It might have something to do with the fact that I have become highly addicted to a PC game. For the first time ever, I have developed the glazed eyes, the inability to carry on a conversation, the quick, jerky movements that signify a gamer junkie. The game is Bookworm. It’s kind of a mix between Scrabble and Tetris.

JonasParker recently wrote about how he met one of my friends quite by accident on Saturday. I won’t detail what happened, because he did a better job of it that I could. So go read his account.

I will say, however, that it was quite a shock to get a call from LJ, asking if I knew someone named Jonas. When I answered to the affirmative, she replied “Oh well, he’s sitting right here.” I almost had a heart attack and died. The reason? Mr. Parker is someone I respect and was just getting to know. LJ has been known to speak not so highly of me when inebriated. I was afraid that might have some impact on our burgeoning friendship.

Either way, they came over and Jonas brought his delightful friend Saab. It was slightly awkward, but I think I’m the only one that noticed tension. I was a little tense for a few reasons, 1) I hadn’t spoken to LJ for approximately a month and we had had some words earlier that day (or rather, she had some words with my voicemail) 2) I had only seen Jonas once before 3) I had never met Saab before (obviously)

All of those factors added up to some degree of uncomfortable-ness for our lovely hostess. (Me)

I could tell that LJ was putting the moves on Saab, so I was not surprised to learn that she asked him out. If I know her, and I do, she is now dissecting with her friends how hot he is, the signs that point to him liking her, why he has/hasn’t called, et cetera.

We spent a couple of hours chatting and then we all left and went our separate ways.

The fact that LJ did not call me the next day to review in detail their every move, nuance and word only goes to prove how far apart we’ve become.

And this is not something that displeases me entirely.
